Biography MD. Arafat Hossain Shovon is one of the youngest documentary filmmakers from Bangladesh, with more than 14 years of professional experience in photography, cinematography, and digital visual storytelling. He gained national recognition for creating the first-ever documentary on the Bangladesh Air Force Academy based entirely on true, real-time events. From 2017 to 2018, he and his team spent two continuous years documenting cadet life from the very first day of joining the Air Force to graduation. The project captured every stage of the journey—including academic classes, laboratories, drills, parades, physical training, campaigns, games, swimming, driving, solo flight training, and ceremonial milestones—without scripted scenes, staged setups, or second takes. Edited solely by him, the documentary was released in 2019 on official Bangladesh Air Force platforms and was formally appreciated by the authority for its authenticity and historical value. Born in Jashore, Bangladesh—widely recognized as one of the cultural cities of the country—MD. Arafat Hossain Shovon grew up in an artistically enriched environment shaped by his mother’s background was a singer, great athlete in school days (currently her identity is 4 times award winning Advocate) Inspired by her influence, he began his artistic journey in childhood through formal singing education. During his school years, he earned more than 50 certificates across diverse fields, including music, debating, and sports, reflecting his versatile talents and active engagement in creative and intellectual pursuits. As recognition for his achievements, he frequently received books, cultivating a deep interest in reading that played a significant role in developing his appreciation for cultural diversity, human stories, and community narratives—elements that continue to inform his cinematic storytelling and academic perspective. He later graduated from East West University with a degree in Economics, an academic foundation that strengthened his understanding of real-world dynamics such as demand and supply, cost–benefit analysis, and strategic decision-making. This analytical background has been instrumental in managing and sustaining his own creative firm. Despite pursuing a business-oriented academic discipline, he remained committed to his artistic aspirations, successfully balancing analytical thinking with creative practice while continuously nurturing his artistic vision. Beyond military documentation, he played a key role in national infrastructure visual representation during the digital transformation of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. He was appointed to lead airport photography for the creation of the official web portal, visually representing Dhaka Airport for a global audience. He also directed the first-ever promotional cinematic video of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Based on his photographic and cinematic work, the official airport website was launched in 2023, establishing a modern digital identity for Bangladesh’s primary international gateway. He has extensive experience working on international platforms across diverse cultural and professional environments. To date, he has worked on multiple projects in India, including major events and award ceremonies, and has also undertaken professional assignments in Malaysia, covering weddings, corporate events, documentary productions, and international photography workshops in collaboration with Canon. In addition, he has completed cross-border collaborative projects for clients worldwide, including the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Saudi Arabia. These international engagements have strengthened his ability to adapt visual narratives to global audiences while maintaining cultural sensitivity and professional standards. Shovon has also contributed to various government projects in collaboration with the Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Police. His professional portfolio includes work with more than 100 national and multinational organizations, such as Unilever, Suzuki, Reckitt Benckiser, Nitol Group, Universal Group, and JCI Bangladesh. In the film industry, he worked as a still photographer for the feature film Swatta (2017), starring Shakib Khan and Paoli Dam, and served as an international photographer for the Kolkata-based film Dadagiri. His work has been acknowledged through multiple national and international platforms, including Global Fame Award (Kolkata), Bengal International Excellence Award (Kolkata), Indo-Bangla Cultural Fest (Kolkata), and the Bharat Bangladesh Film Award (BBFA), Dhaka, in the capacity of photography. Since 2015, he has been running his own creative firm, where he mentors and trains emerging photographers and filmmakers, many of whom are now working nationally and internationally. Over his career, he has covered more than 2,000 events, produced over 1,000 cinematic videos, and built a global digital presence with over 300,000 followers. Alongside professional practice, he actively educates a global audience through digital content focused on photography and cinematography techniques and visual storytelling.
